Writing is something many of us are required to do on a daily basis in our businesses. Social media posts, emails, newsletters, blog posts, you name it.

But so much of our meaning and message gets buried in corporate jargon or industry slang or just… extra fluff.

This is why it’s so important to design (and write) with your customer in mind.

Here are some guidelines for improving your writing practice:

  1. Write less.
  2. Make your point as soon as possible.
  3. Be consistent from one piece of writing to the next.
  4. Use better and fewer words.
  5. Write how you talk (with some professional charm on the side).

There’s a great argument for ensuring your content is highly discoverable by search engines or fitting into the framework of a ✨ proven ✨ sales pitch, but nothing can replace the value of a clear and consistent message.

So whether it’s your website headline or a social media caption, be thoughtful about what you’re saying.

Your words are speaking on behalf of your brand.
